Half Marathons

The Half Marathon is my favorite race distance. It's long enough that you need to train for it, but not so far that it disrupts your weekends with long stretch runs. For me, the three marathons I ran felt too far. Anytime I ran a training run or race over 17 miles, the last miles were not fun. And 10K's feel too short. You can be done in under an hour. It's hardly worth the registration fee. But the Half, your training runs might top out at 11 or 12 miles. That can be done in under 2 hours. And on race day, you give max effort and feel the right level of spent. You feel you earned your swag. Ten Milers are great too, there's just not many of them.

Croatia 2023

My daughter finished her summer studies at Oxford. She flew to Zagreb and I met her there. We took a wonderful tour of Croatia. 

Pacific Northwest 2023

 

My son was finishing his summer program at Stanford Medicine following his first year at Howard. He had a couple of weeks and was looking to do some hiking, so a plan came together for me to fly out and meet him in San Francisco, rent a car, and drive to Seattle. There was a lot of good stuff to see along the way and great hiking. Uncle Bill decided to join us at the last moment.

Five weeks after the Boston Marathon, I ran a half marathon with my daughter on a beautiful course in Westport. The race started and ended at Horseneck beach.
